Service Description
This course is for Adults who have a flare or passion for comedy and wish to focus on developing their own comedy scripts and/or characters In Sketch Comedy 101 students will learn the building blocks of how to write, act in and produce a comedy sketch much like what you see on SNL. In the writing section students will learn how to write comedic scenes by exploring different scenic set-ups, character dialogue, genres and point-of-view. Class time includes a combination of solo exercises and collaborative exercises to build skills in brainstorming, comedic structure and character development. Students will learn how the comedy partly derives from the writing of the scenes; the premise, jokes, satire, etc… But the truly deep audience laughs come from great performances. Students will learn to sharpen their emotional range, as when actors emotionally commit to the scene, the audience is emotionally invested too. We will explore and understand recognisable human behaviour and how it can become a comedic actor's most valuable asset. We will also explore the dramatic side of comedy. Pulling the audience back and forth to feel multiple emotions in a scene is essential for the working actor. Finally the students of this class will Produce and film one of the written sketches by the end of term.
